Assessments and Internal Examinations

In addition to regular homework, assessment and monitoring of pupil progress is an essential part of school life at Belfast Royal Academy. All pupils in Forms 1 to 4 (Years 8 to 11) sit internal examinations in both December and June. Exam year pupils in Form 5 (Year 12) and in Sixth Form (Years 13 & 14) must complete tracking tests in October, December and March, prior to sitting their public examinations in May and June.

Reports are communicated to parents via the SIMS ParentApp after Winter and Summer examinations and after each tracking assessment in October and March.

The internal examination timetable will be uploaded in due course.

External Examinations – CCEA Northern Ireland

The School works with a number of different Awarding Bodies for both GCSE and A Level Examinations. The majority of subjects follow Northern Ireland’s Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) Curriculum but certain subjects are also taken by different UK Examination Bodies, including: AQA, OCR, WJEC and Pearson.

You may visit the Summer 2023 area of CCEA’s website here, where they will post up-to-date information on awarding and assessment arrangements for the Summer 2023 examination series.

If you have any queries with regards to external examinations please contact Dr Christine Burns, Examinations Officer on info@bfsra.belfast.ni.sch.uk
