Catering Options

At Belfast Royal Academy, we offer both breakfast options and a full lunch menu for all pupils.

Breakfast is served daily in the Dining Hall from 8.15am to 8.45am and offers a selection of healthy breakfast items.

Along with an extensive choice of cafeteria-style hot and cold food, sandwiches, snacks and drinks, a traditional school lunch can also be purchased from the Dining Hall or Jackson Suite.

Sample Menus

We have a rotational four-week cycle menu, which offers pupils an extensive range of tasty and healthy options. All dishes are freshly prepared daily and allergen information is available in our service areas.

Payment Methods

The School is now operating a cash-free environment. The Dining Hall and Jackson Suite therefore operate a cashless system for all meals and food and drink purchases. Pupils pay digitally using their fingerprint at the till point – no cash is accepted at the tills. The fingerprint system is a unique and secure method which makes it the most reliable kind of personal identification.

Payment with School Gateway App or via School Gateway Website

The School is using a new on-line payment system which uses the School Gateway App or Website to facilitate payments onto pupils’ dining accounts. This enables parents to easily make payments electronically, using a smart phone, tablet or laptop and the money is automatically credited onto the pupil’s account.

It is recommended that parents download the School Gateway App (which is free) to register to make electronic payments.

Apple iPhone users can download the app here at schoolgateway.co.uk/iosdownload

Android phone users can download the app here at schoolgateway.co.uk/androiddownload

Your login details will be automatically generated using the contact information which the School already has, so please make sure the details we hold for you are up to date. Parents simply sign up to the App using these details.

Alternatively, if you do not have a smart phone, you may login to the online version of School Gateway via the website https://login.schoolgateway.co...

although we do recommend using the App if possible as it is easier to contact parents via the App.

Please contact the School Office if you have any queries or are experiencing any difficulties with the School Gateway payment system.

Free School Meals

The cost of the traditional school lunch is at present £2.80 per day. The cost to pupils of this meal is subsidised by the Government and represents good value for money.

Some children are entitled to free meals, and parents should contact the Education Authority NI to see if their child is entitled to this service. The appropriate amount will be credited as a subsidy on a fingerprint system each day to pay only for lunch or breakfast. Parents can add money to top up this amount if desired - the free meal amount will always be used first when making a purchase and then any personal money.

Dietary Requirements

Special dietary requirements can be catered for, including gluten free and vegetarian diets. Should you wish to discuss specific dietary issues please speak to our Catering Manager.

Sixth Form Dining

Sixth Form pupils have their own specific dining areas situated within their Common Rooms, where they can also purchase hot and cold food, drinks and snacks.

Packed Lunches

Pupils may also bring packed lunches to school and must eat them at the time and in the place arranged – be it the Dining Hall, Jackson Suite or Assembly Hall.
