Pupil Resources

Careers

Higher Education and choosing a career pathway are a fundamental part in being a pupil at Belfast Royal Academy. Life beyond school can seem daunting and our pupils seem to be faced with an ever increasing number of options. Through a structured careers programme, developed to raise aspirations at all levels and to provide support, many of our pupils go on to excel both at university and in the world of work. The structure of our careers education and guidance involves utilising an experienced team of staff drawn from across the curriculum which links up with individual departments.

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG)

CEIAG is the composite term that refers to the total range of integrated activities provided by the Careers Department, subject specialists and other agencies available to develop the necessary career management and employability skills our pupils will need to make them employable. These activities and resulting skills will allow our pupils to make informed choices and decisions which will affect their future education, training and employment.

The vast majority of our pupils gain places at their first choice of university. To assist with CEIAG the school works closely with a number of external partners, including Unifrog, Careers Service NI, Eye4Education, Sentinus and a well-established Alumni network.

All aspects of CEIAG are considered very important for each pupil’s school experience. The provision reflects the school ethos which encourages each pupil to have high aspirations and achieve their full potential. High importance is placed on individual advice and guidance, and provision of experiences of a variety of workplaces and professions.

Facilities & Resources

The Careers Department has an excellent Careers Suite, well equipped with a range of paper sources and software packages. This Resource Room is open to our Sixth Form pupils and is visited by Forms 1 – 5 at various times. It provides an excellent opportunity for pupils to access up to date careers information and to evaluate the different sources of information available.
