THe Pink Paper Bag Project

This scheme was first established at Belfast Royal Academy in August 2020, to provide free period products to anyone in school who needed them. The project started based solely on donations from staff. Parents then became involved and donated products, as a means of saying ‘thank you’ for the service. The sentiment behind the inception of the project was for pupil wellbeing, so that they would have ‘one less worry in the day’ knowing that they were provided for in this way. The project has gone from strength to strength, and the school was featured on BBC Radio Ulster and also on BBC Newsline. As the next stage in the development of this initiative, we are now very proud to confirm that the products we offer are all plastic free and chemical free. We are working with three brands to ensure that our period products are healthier for those that use them and much more environmentally sustainable. We annouced the relaunch of this scheme on the 9th November, and provided a mini-pink product bag to pupils, containing three free samples of the new eco-friendly products, in the aim of raising awareness and letting them sample this new type of product.
