Religious Education
Our Aim
It is our aim that each pupil in the school will see Religious Education as vital, enriching, challenging and enjoyable.
Curriculum
- Key Stage 3
- God’s World, Abraham, Judaism, St. Patrick
- The Revelation of God – the Life of Jesus
- The Christian Church, the Ten Commandments & Christian Morality and an Introduction to the religion of Islam
- GCSE
Pupils follow the CCEA Short Course for Religious Studies, studying The Identity of Jesus, the Christian Church and Christian Morality
- AS/A2
Pupils choosing Religious Studies at AS/A2 level, study the CCEA specification units of Old Testament Prophecy and the Early Christian Church
Facilities and Resources
Pupils are taught by specialist teachers in subject-specific classrooms. There is a wide variety of resources available to the pupils and an extensive DVD/video library.
Additional Information
Visiting speakers and educational visits are an important part of the pupil experience in Religious Education. Form 1 pupils visit the Synagogue in Belfast; Form 3 pupils have a Drugs awareness and responsibility seminar facilitated by a visiting speaker; From 5 pupils send representatives to the Schools ‘Life Conference’ and have a seminar organised by Love for Life; pupils studying AS/A2 have visiting speakers on issues related to coursework and also participate in a Leadership Conference when local politician and Church leaders speaker on the theme of Leadership Church and State.
