Library
The School Library is a large bright area on the first floor of the Crombie Building in the heart of the school. It provides resources, in a variety of media, to support the curriculum for both pupils and staff and is an attractive area for independent study. At the same time, through whole class and extra curricular activities, the library promotes reading as a fun and leisure activity.

The library is staffed by a chartered librarian, Mrs V. Watkins. Pupils of all ages may help in the daily running of the library and this service may be used towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme or university applications. Pupils also have the opportunity to represent their form on the Library Council.
Opening hours are 8.45am – 4pm Monday to Friday. All pupils may visit the library at breaktime, lunchtime and after school each day.

Events

All Form 1 and Form 2 classes visit the library weekly as part of their English timetable to talk about books and to follow a programme of library and information skills.
Three Book Clubs and Reading Groups provide opportunity for pupils of all forms to share their love of books. These are informal and pupils are encouraged to be responsible for their own activities and reading choices.
Every opportunity is taken to promote reading and so we celebrate National Poetry Day each October and World Book Day in March. A Scholastic Book Fair for junior forms takes place each autumn and our annual Book Fair supplied by the Bookshop at Queen’s is a whole school event in spring.
Regular guest and author visits also contribute to maintaining and encouraging a reading culture within the school.
