Welcome to Belfast Royal Academy

I welcome you very warmly to the website of Belfast Royal Academy, which is the oldest school in the city. Founded in 1785 in Academy Street, it transferred to its present North Belfast site in the nineteenth century and is now a large, co-educational, non-denominational day grammar school with strong academic, musical and sporting traditions. There are some 1400 pupils at the grammar school, with another 165 at Ben Madigan, our Preparatory Department.
I hope that you will enjoy this website. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Headmaster: Mr. J. M. G. Dickson
Arrangements to replace the 11+
While the final 11+ took place in 2008, our school will continue to select pupils on an academic basis in the future. Pupils hoping to gain admission in 2010 should have registered for the Common Entrance Assessment.
Further information about the assessment may be found on the website of the Association for Quality Education www.aqe.org.uk
