Welcome to Belfast Royal Academy

I welcome you very warmly to the website of Belfast Royal Academy, which is the oldest school in the city. Founded in 1785 in Academy Street, it transferred to its present North Belfast site in the nineteenth century and is now a large, co-educational, non-denominational day grammar school with strong academic, musical and sporting traditions. There are some 1400 pupils at the grammar school, with another 165 at Ben Madigan, our Preparatory Department.
I hope that you will enjoy this website. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Headmaster: Mr. J. M. G. Dickson
Arrangements to replace the 11 Plus
While the final 11 plus examination took place in 2008, our school will continue to select pupils on the basis of academic ability in the future.
