ICT Policy
1. The school recognises the importance of Information & Communication Technology in the school curriculum, both as an experience of skills and concepts in their own right and as a means of enhancing the delivery of subjects across the curriculum.
2. The development of pupils ICT capability should include the following:
(a) acquisition of knowledge about the nature and variety of ICT hardware and software
(b) development of skills in the use of ICT for a variety of tasks
(c) acquisition of a range of positive personal qualities and attitudes - confidence, flexibility, open-mindedness to technological change while developing a proper scepticism about how far each change represents an advance for individuals and societies.
3. All departments in the school recognise that they have an appropriate part to play in the successful delivery of ICT experiences. The use of ICT will be encouraged in the teaching of all subjects within the curriculum.
4. The school recognises that a cross-curricular approach is unlikely to provide the required development in the use of ICT and will in addition provide specific teaching in ICT
5. Pupils will be encouraged to use ICT, where appropriate, for the preparation of course-work and other work.
6. Staff will be encouraged and enabled to avail themselves of opportunities for in-service training in ICT
7. The Head of ICT has a leadership function and will work with colleagues and pupils to promote the successful implementation of the schools ICT policy.
8. The school recognises that there are resource implications involved in the implementation of its ICT policy:
(a) the provision of hardware and software;
(b) the provision of in and out of school INSET for all staff in ICT usage;
(c) the availability of ICT core team to aid colleagues and pupils as and when necessary;
(d) the availability of hardware and associated advice during lesson time and, potentially, at other times;
(e) the provision of accommodation for students to obtain access to ICT facilities during lesson time and, potentially, at other times;
(f) the provision of time for ICT staff to be trained in the use of, and to familiarise themselves with, new hardware and software;
(g) the provision of technical support.
