Curriculum
Key Stage 3
Chemistry is taught as a separate Science subject, by a specialist teacher, throughout Junior School. The variety of Reading, Writing and Audio-Visual activities is designed to build depth and width across the topics so that understanding and problem solving skills can be gained.
GCSE
Pupils follow the CCEA specification. Approximately 60% choose to study Chemistry as part of the Triple Award option. The remainder follow the Double Award Science specification. Coursework is worth 25% of the total examination mark.
AS/A2
We regularly have 90 pupils studying Chemistry at AS level with approximately 80% of these progressing to A2 level.
Facilities and Resources
All of our five laboratories have been recently refurbished and have interactive whiteboards and internet terminals enabling pupils to access on-line resources.
